Koh Samui Guide
Koh Samui is the third largest island of Thailand and is very developed a tropical beach resort but still maintains its charm and has everything to offer from coconut tree lined beaches and tropical jungles to a vibrant nightlife. Popular beaches are Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut & Maenam. Lodging ranges from bungalows to 5 star resorts and suitable for all budgets. A full variety of restaurants of all flavors invite for delicious wining and dining and spas and massage facilities for rejuvenation.
Chaweng is where Samui’s most well-known entertainment venues are located, such as the Green Mango Discotheque, which has been warmly welcoming gay and straight tourists for twenty years and Sweet Soul Café, which has a decidedly gay following in late evenings.
Maenam Beach is on the north coast. It has views of Koh Pha Ngam, where the famous ‘full moon’ parties are held, monthly, for the young and young at heart. Adjacent to Bophut Beach is Bangrak, also known as “Big Buddha Beach.”

Koh Samui doesn’t have a big gay scene like that found in Bangkok or Pattaya. It’s probably better to take your “friend” with you to enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of the area. However there are gay nightclubs to be found including The Male Box and Boy Zone. The Starz Cabaret is the best that Samui has to offer, but also check out Christy’s (the oldest) and Star Club. In addition there are several massage-for-men venues (see listings), where you can indulge in a very relaxing massage or spa treatment.
Things get more SPICY! after midnight, as most local Thai guys start going out on the late side or after work from around 11 pm or midnight until the wee hours (2-3 am or later). SPICE! highly recommends visits to the Male Box and Boy Zone Mens Clubs (good male revue show) where cute Thai guys serve you drinks and hot shows are presented beginning around 10:30 pm.
Still not ready to call it a night? After Sweet Soul everyone heads to the Solo Club just a five minute walk from Sweet Soul. It’s a large open-air entertainment and dance club where many locals and tourists, gay and straight, party until the wee hours. It opens at 2 am. Gays tend to hang around the disco dance area.
