The Amazing Duo behind gCircuit Parties

Thousands of gay men from across the globe have danced to the beat generated by world-class DJ’s at the parties thrown by gCircuit. I don’t need to tell most of you this information because it’s likely that you’ve picked up this issue at SamuiFantasia 2009 and are probably in the middle of fulfilling your fantasy.

Others, like me, have yet to attend a gCircuit party, but I plan on losing that virginity as soon as possible.  So, we’ve established a good time is being had by many, but who do we have to thank?

Meet Tom and Oui, the entrepreneurial duo behind gCircuit, and boyfriends to boot!  In fact, they met on the 18th of July, 1999, at Club Freeman, so they’ve celebrated their 10th anniversary!  They say it was “earth-shattering, world-shaking love at first sight!”
Tom is Singaporean but has not lived in Singapore since before he and Oui met.  In fact, after serving in the army Tom went to New York University for four years before settling in Bangkok to work in the family business.  He opened a restaurant but ultimately ended up in the party business.  You can guess that since Oui and Tom have been together for ten years that they’ve participated in all of these activities together.
When Stuart Koe, founder of www.Fridae.com, decided to end the very successful Nation circuit party, Tom & Out seized the day, as they say.
“It was an impromptu decision.  We have been doing parties for the past three years, namely Songkran and Fantasia,” said Tom.
While they organize parties mostly in Thailand, they just had a very successful event in Taipei in early November.

About SamuiFantasia, the duo explained, “We always wanted to do a beach event and when there were so many parties happening in Bangkok this year, we figured what better time to move away from the city than now?”
Will they do the party every year?
“If it’s a resounding success, why not?” they both asked and exclaimed.

They know the food, people and culture make Thailand an irresistible destination for everyone, especially the mostly twenty to forty-something year-old men who attend their parties. And other ages, of course!
They’ve learned about the Asian gay community. Tom says, “The circle is small and the younger generation is more open and comfortable with their identity than ever.”

Tom and Oui are out to nurture and care for their party-goers as well.  “We are strong advocates of safe sex and HIV prevention and awareness.  We hope to encourage safe sex through our events, and we work with a number of organizations such as AFA and Rainbow Sky.”
They put up safe sex posters, distribute flyers, and incorporate the messages into their entertainment.  “That is what we are proud of,” they explain.

People in the singles set or those in challenging relationships always like to hear the secrets of successful long-time lovers like Tom and Oui, so I ask for their secrets, as well as how they balance their personal and business relationships.
“It’s not easy,” they explained.  “First two years were hard.  The love has to be real and strong, and I guess we’ve always had that.  Our personalities are complete opposites, so I think that helped.  Opposites attract as they say, and it’s very true.  We balance each other very nicely, so it helped a lot, not only in our personal lives, but our professional lives as well.”
Is there an unknown secret about the duo?

They laughed, explaining that they have “spent almost every single day with each other since we met.  There really was no dating period and we lived together immediately when we were in New York.”
They love making people happy and will be throwing the biggest gCircuit Songkran event ever following the SamuiFantasia 2009, Asia’s largest ever Gay beach party!

As for their own happiness, they plan to have a formal wedding in late 2010.  When they’re not hard at work, Tom loves to watch movies, so they watch at least one a week, and Oui explained, “I also try to bring Tom home whenever we can to visit his family.”
Their final words for this interview: “Party smart and party responsibly.  The younger generation is more susceptible to drug abuse and unsafe sex and I hope they will learn to take care of themselves more.”
To Tom and Oui, thanks for the great parties, and congratulations on your planned wedding!
