Contemporary dining at ‘The Pier’

Thailand Spice! Magazine would like to introduce ‘The Pier’ restaurant located at the Fisherman Village in Kho Samui’s Bophut area where the atmosphere remains with fishing boats in the small scenic bay acting as a rustic backdrop to the numerous restaurants which have sprung up there over the last five years.

The Pier restaurant  is probably the easiest to find as it is almost immediately in front of you as you wander down the lane towards the ‘village’.  If you are driving, just leave your car in the parking area you see on the left before you reach the shops. Parking is free for The Pier’s diners only.
The cool and comfortable atmosphere features a colorful bar and cool music while you gaze out to the waterfront. The menu offers excellent Thai cuisine, fresh, delicious seafood and many international selections. In addition, vegetarian menus are available on request. The Pier is one of the Samui’s best restaurants for a laid back and entertaining night out. It has two floors of seating and you can sit under cover or outside facing the sea above the beach.

Many exceptional entrees are available including some specialties like Samosa – Deep fried rice paper stuffed with jam, onion, curry powder, pepper served with cucumber salad. Or Herbal Ribs – Deep fried marinated pork rib, kaffir lime leaf and lemon grass. Another favourite is Crab Meat Curry – Crab meat with papaya, sweet and red curry paste in coconut milk served with egg noodle or rice. I liked the  Beef Fajitas – Grilled marinated beef served with Spanish rice, mango salsa, sour cream and guacamole. For dessert try the Tiramisu or  Panna Cotta with choice of Mango or Blueberry toppings.

The Pier is located in the outstanding bold architecture of the unique building. There are huge, square, black pillars supporting two stories, and it is completely open-sided allowing the cooling sea breezes to waft through. Everything here is done on a grand scale with the semi-minimalist styling combined with lots of solid wood and bold shapes creating a place of great substance. The ceilings on both floors are at least 20 feet high.

The interior design using neon signs around and inside the area and cocktail bar, featuring fresh flowers on each table to contrast perfectly with the overall black/grey color scheme and living room dining room homey feeling of the oversized chairs and sofas.  Try The Pier for a very enjoyable evening with great food and service while enjoying a Samui sunset.
The Pier is open from 11 am – 12pm (kitchen closes at 11pm). For further information and reservations, Tel: 077 430 0681.
