Places to Dine in Bangkok this month.

Following Uncle Ted’s last article, among the comments received and/or posted on www. spicemag.net, were the following:

Great reviews…at last, someone has the guts to say it as it is. Would like your review of two of my favourites… @Richards (the best staff in gay land) and Maxis.
I agree all good reviews, but next time please mention about the service and staff—that would be a great help for travellers.

My Ground Rules:
• I visit incognito and pay the full price, and I don’t care if the place advertises in SPICE! or not.
• There is a big difference between something that is costly—not a consideration to me,
and something that is expensive—unjustifiably too much and definitely a consideration to me!
• Bangkok is the number one tourist destination in Southeast Asia, and the percentage ofgay tourists            is relatively high. So can you conceive of ANY business NOT being gay-friendly? Thai culture
embraces all people, but you better understand what is polite and what is not—see Helpful Hints
on Page 5. In any event, regardless of your sexuality or your interests, you can’t go wrong being kind,
friendly, courteous, respectful, and by obeying the laws; for example, Don’t even THINK about
sex with someone under 18!

My Favorite Gay-friendly Places to Dine in Bangkok (August/September 2008):
• Friendliest Staff, good food, and best value – @Richards, Silom Soi 2/1. For 15 years, Zak
has remembered my favorite drink; Jim keeps the service silky smooth; one lad has the most
amazing sparkling teeth and the friendliest smile on earth; and what about the buff giant with the
biceps! Wow! 081-907-5560. Thai and western cuisines.
• Very professional staff and better food – Sphinx, Silom Soi 4. Calm, quiet, and reasonably
priced, this restaurant never disappoints. Thai and western cuisines. 02-234-7249.
• Most Smiley Staff with the Best Legs, and best Cheeseburgers (…and who is that
handsome man who looks like the captain of a British cricket team? Ooh dear!) – Balcony, Silom
Soi 4, Thai and western cuisines. (0) 2235-5891.
• Most Romantic – Indigo. Elegantly dressed staff serving elegant French delights in a hidden
garden off Convent, off Silom – very urbane. Tel: (0) 2235-3268.
•Hottest Newcomer – Maxis, Soi Pratuchai off Suriwong Rd. Affable Aussie host and his bf
serve delicious Thai and western cuisines right on the soi where everyone go-goes!
