Summer—The Sexiest Chic Escape
Bangkok’s major department stores sponsor fashion weeks throughout the year.My particular “in” is with the powers that be at the Siam Paragon which,in conjunction with the Siam Center, The Emporium, and Siam Discovery Center continued their leadership in encouraging the international aspirations of Thai fashion with the staging of Siam Paragon Bangkok International Fashion Week 2009 under the theme “Color The Earth.” While you may already know that Siam Paragon is a mall, you may not know that inside the jewel of Bangkok is the Paragon Department Store where you can fi nd the swimwear shown here.
One of the catwalk shows at BIFW (March 2009 edition) was called “Swimwear by Lingerie Salon” during which extremely sexy models with mouth-watering appeal paraded the latest collections of swimwear and beach accessories from 12 leading labels including Arena, BSC, Elle, Guy Laroche, Insight, Jantzen, Mariposa, Salinas, Speedo, Streamline, Triumph and Oliver Peoples Eyewear, proving the “Summer—Sexiest Chic Escape” theme.
By the way, the photo (accompanying this story) with the two rows of
handsome Asian men in swimsuits is from the BIFW 27 Nov show from
designer Chanachai Jareeyathana – he designs under the 27 Nov label
“for the new eneration
kids who like to have their own styles.” Find their fl agship store in
the Siam Center. They have a wide range of men’s clothing, not just
swimsuits.
Chadatip Chutrakul, CEO of Siam Paragon Development Co., Ltd. and Managing Director of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd. spoke of “the importance of supporting the Thai fashion industry and to elevate Bangkok to the level of established world fashion centers with Siam Paragon as the hub. Siam Center has been a leading benefactor of the Thai fashion industry for 35 years, witnessing the rise of many leading local industry names. Today, it has the largest concentration of Thai designers’ fl agship stores in Thailand with new design talent constantly clamoring to have their work represented at the center.” You will be surprised at the variety of designs showcased especially in the Siam Center (the more aff ordable), and at the very upscale Siam Paragon.
To properly shop this area of Bangkok, I suggest you take the sky train to the National Stadium BTS station, explore the very large MBK, then walk down the sky walk to Siam Center and Siam Paragon, and on down the sky walk to CentralWorld. This could take an entire day, with plenty of places to eat, drink, and even catch a movie along the way. Hungry for more BIFW coverage?
